NSW Police to further crack down on COVID-19 lockdown breaches

Police across the state will start cracking down even harder on people caught breaking lockdown restrictions after another 106 fines were handed down in the last day.
NSW Deputy Police Commissioner Gary Worboys said that although the vast majority of residents in NSW are complying, a number of people are still not getting the message.
Police have always said that they will be firm, but fair. We are now in a position where we need to be much more firmer than fairer, he said.

NSW records 77 new Covid-19 cases, one death

New South Wales (NSW) recorded 77 new locally acquired Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours to 8pm yesterday (local time) and one fatality.

Thirty-three of the cases have been out in the community while infectious.
NSW Health confirmed a woman in her 90s from south west Sydney died yesterday at Liverpool Hospital.
It is the first Covid death in NSW since December 2020.
She was a close contact of a locally acquired case and was tested for Covid-19 on Friday, returning a positive result early yesterday morning. ....

Gary Worboys said that while a vast majority of NSW residents have complied with the public health order, there have been three noteworthy instances in the last 24 hours of people breaching it.
First, a group of 15 old men was playing cards in a “unit in Marrickville.” None of them were wearing masks and the men were in their fifties through to just short of 90 years of age. ....

New South Wales has recorded 77 new local COVID-19 cases and one death as Greater Sydney enters its third week of lockdown.
A woman in her 90s from Sydney’s southwest, who was a close contact of a locally-acquired case and tested positive for the virus on Friday, died on Saturday at Liverpool Hospital.
“Tragically, we’ve seen one older person die and I want to extend my deepest condolences to their families and loved ones,” Premier Gladys Berejiklian said on Sunday, noting the person had acquired the virus in their household.
Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant said it s understood the woman was not vaccinated. ....

Covid-19 Australia: Auburn birthday party, Marrickville card game disbanded as Covid-19 breaches

An 18th birthday party, a game of cards with 90 year olds, and a video game session are among the Covid-19 breaches in just one day of Sydney s lockdown.
NSW Police Deputy Commissioner Gary Worboys said on Sunday that 106 infringement notices had been issued in the last 24 hours.
Police received 1,200 tip offs from the public about Covid-19 breaches across both Sydney and regional NSW - including Orange.
Fifteen men were caught playing a game of cards in a unit in Marrickville, in Sydney s inner west - on a day when 77 people tested positive to Covid.
These men were in their 50s, through to just short of 90 years of age, commissioner Worboys said. ....
