MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Most MLGW customers have continued to have power since the winter weather rolled into the Mid-South on Sunday.
The Tennessee Valley Authority supplies power to MLGW and takes credit for keeping the lights on.
“I think the events of this week speak for themselves,” said Scott Brooks, TVA spokesperson. “The reliability we’ve had for the last two decades - 99.99% reliability - still continues even with this drastic winter weather.” ....

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - It’s that second round of winter weather that took the biggest toll on Mississippi’s ability to keep the lights on. Widespread power outages are a problem through much of the state Thursday.
Trees and power lines were coated in ice and limbs looked nearly white against the gray skies.
“Worst ice storm since 1994,” explained Northern District Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley. “The width of it is worse than 1994. The single digit temperatures we saw on Tuesday morning and then the ice that came through yesterday was the real culprit. The freezing rain and ice is why outages went from a peak on Monday of 64,000 on Monday to 200,000 this morning ....

Freezing Winter Storm Paralyzes Deep South; Thousands Without Power
Winter storms that dumped additional snow and ice on the Deep South plunged more than 300,000 homes and businesses into darkness early Thursday and left roads impassable across a wide area.
While temperatures were expected to warm over the weekend, some people could be without power until next week.
Parts of Interstate 20 were at a standstill in Louisiana, state police said, and multiple roads were icebound in Mississippi, where almost 200,000 utility customers were without power, including thousands near the capital in Jackson. In northern Mississippi, the picturesque square in Oxford has been white with snow since late Sunday. ....
