A 26-year-old Wailea man was arrested Friday in an investigation into an assault on an infant who was severely injured, police said.
The 11-month-old child was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center.
The man was released pending further investigation of first-degree assault and second-degree assault of the child. Police records indicate the assaults were reported April 30.
The man was being held in two other cases. He was charged with two counts of abuse of a 23-year-old woman between April 16 and 29, with bail set at $1,000.
He also was arrested on bench warrants totaling $70,000 for allegedly violating requirements of his two years’ probation for abuse in a 2019 case. After being placed on probation in May 2020, the man allegedly didn’t report to his probation officer, used alcohol or illegal drugs, didn’t complete anger management and didn’t perform 100 hours of community service, according to court records.
