Retailers will need some wooing in Penfolds charm drive

Independent wine retailers say many of their customers gravitated long ago to other Australian fine wines and premium drops from France and Italy after allocations of Treasury Wine Estates’ flagship Penfolds Grange and other high-end Penfolds were increasingly directed to China.
They also say the $950 a bottle price tag for Penfolds Grange became a barrier.
Treasury Wine Estates chief executive Tim Ford on Thursday acknowledged the company had a lot of work to do to reconnect with independent retailers in Australia on the high-end Penfolds range, as the company seeks to redirect more of the wine which had been going to China. ....
