JACKSON COUNTY, MI – A Grass Lake Township family’s home was destroyed, and their dog was killed in a fire Saturday.
The fire started before 3:35 p.m., March 13 in the 4900 block of Fishville Road, fire Chief Greg Jones said. It also destroyed the family’s camper and pickup and all their personal belongings, he said.
The family was living in the camper while they were between houses, Jones said. They were not home at the time of the fire, he said.
Embers from a fire pit likely blew, catching the grass under the camper on fire, Jones said. The fire also burned the nearby wooded area, destroying about four acres, he said. ....

An op-ed was recently published from Ron Ruman of West Manchester Township regarding the sale of the York City wastewater treatment plant. As a former supervisor from West Manchester Township, I agree that the suburban user municipalities should continue to oppose the sale and the associated rate hikes that will accompany it. I am also happy to see that the current Board of Supervisors at West Manchester Township have already taken this position from the onset of this issue to protect their residents from future excessive rate hikes. ....
