(Pocket-lint) - Think Montblanc and in your mind s eye you could be picturing any number of things: wallets, pens, jewellery, watches, bags, belts, or even notebooks. The one thing that they all have in common (apart from often being made from black leather) is that they re luxury items and aren t cheap. A Meisterstück gold-coated Classique ballpoint pen could set you back hundreds. So when Montblanc launches a Wear OS smartwatch it s best to go in with the expectation that it won t be cheap. But actually, if you compare this second-gen watch - here the Summit Lite - to other Montblanc watches, it s relatively cost efficient. That means there s still definitely some appeal here for anyone wanting a luxury smartwatch but who doesn t wish to spend more than a grand. ....

(Image source: Motorola) Motorola s next smartwatch will feature the latest Snapdragon Wear 4100 SoC, which remains criminally under adopted by Wear OS smartwatch manufacturers. The circular smartwatch will also support GPS, NFC and 5 ATM water resistance. Internet of Things (IoT), iOS, Wearable, Ticker Qualcomm unveiled its Wear 4100 and Wear 4100+ platforms last year, but many smartwatch manufacturers remain wedded to its older Wear 3100 chipsets. The Wear 3100 platform is essentially a re-branded Wear 2100 though, which Qualcomm unveiled in early 2016. Hence, recent smartwatches like the Montblanc Summit Lite rely on a chipset that is five years old. In fact, only Mobvoi has adopted the Wear 4100 platform so far, albeit only with the TicWatch Pro 3 and the TicWatch Pro 3 LTE ....

It s cheaper than 2019 s Summit 2 and the LTE-packing Summit 2+ that landed in 2020, the Lite goes a little lighter on price. At £700 (â¬790 â it s not on sale in the US yet), it s $160 cheaper than the Summit 2. That s not crazy expensive in luxury smartwatch terms â it s way cheaper than the Tag Heuer Connected or Hublot Big Bang and around the same price as a stainless steel Apple Watch Series 6 44mm. ....
