QUETTA: While Balochistan reported 26 of the total 84 polio cases detected last year in the country, so far in the seven months of this year only one case has been found in the province and across Pakistan.
“The situation has improved considerably due to effective anti-polio campaigns in the province and cooperation of the people,” said the provincial coordinator of emergency operations centre, Rashid Razzaq, while briefing a meeting of senior government officials and representatives of Unicef and World Health Organisation (WHO) on Balochitan’s fight against the virus here on Wednesday.
Officials said it was also agreed in the meeting that new building codes would be formulated for the province as new technology had come along. AFP/File
QUETTA: Federal Secretary for Housing and Works Dr Imran Zeb Khan on Wednesday discussed with Balochistan Chief Secretary Mathar Niaz Rana various issues, including housing schemes in the province.
He said the federal government would extend all help and cooperation to the provincial government for resolving the housing issues in Balochistan.
Mr Khan said the government had already launched housing projects in the province under the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Officials said it was also agreed in the meeting that new building codes would be formulated for the province as new technology had come along and it was time to build high-rise buildings in Quetta and other towns and cities of the province.

GWADAR / QUETTA: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that Pakistan and its neighbouring countries want peace and a political settlement in Afghanistan to avoid possible civil war, which would affect the entire region.
Speaking at the launch of development projects and the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with China for different projects in Gwadar during his daylong visit to the port city on Monday, Prime Minister Khan said: “Pakistan is trying to talk to all the neighbouring countries and the Taliban to work out a political settlement with consensus.”
