Bowdoin resident appointed first female commander of Maine National Guard combat engineer company

An avid outdoorswoman, cross-fitter with a first-degree black belt in Taekwondo, 1st Lt. Ellen Morrison of Bowdoin can now add first female commander of the Maine National Guard’s 251st Engineer Company to her list of accomplishments.
Morrison accepted the role of commander at a ceremony attended by family, friends and colleagues in Norway, Maine, on April 30. ....

Warner admires nation's film, sound, TV trove in Culpeper

It took a few tries to make it happen, but Sen. Mark Warner visited one of the wonders of the Western world late last week: the National Audio-Visual Conservation Center of the Library of Congress—aka, its Packard Campus in Culpeper County.
Virginia’s senior U.S. senator toured the 415,000-square-foot complex, guardian of countless American cultural treasures, for nearly an hour.
Just minutes into his whirlwind tour, Warner responded with a big “wow!” when told that philanthropist David Woodley Packard’s donation of the custom-built facility stands as history’s second-biggest private gift to the federal government, after the Smithsonian Institution. (It is also the largest-ever private gift to the U.S. legislative branch.) ....

Pinellas launches sustainability and resiliency website
Pinellas County recently launched a new sustainability and resiliency website to share the current and upcoming sustainability and resiliency efforts and offer residents ideas for how they can make a difference in their community.
The site can be found at sustainability.pinellas.gov.
The launch of the website comes as the county begins developing its first comprehensive Sustainability and Resiliency Action Plan to address the unique geographical, environmental, social, economic, and climate challenges of Florida’s most densely populated county.
Scheduled for completion in March 2022, the Sustainability and Resiliency Action Plan will guide Pinellas County governmental policies and programs, as well as external community services. ....

Allegiant announces new nonstop route to and from Portsmouth
Allegiant recently announced a new nonstop route from St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport (PIE) to Portsmouth, New Hampshire beginning June 2.
Allegiant also began a new route to Fargo, North Dakota on Feb. 11 and plans to fly nonstop to and from Little Rock, Arkansas beginning in May.
Allegiant is PIE’s primary carrier currently offering 53 nonstop routes. It is the fourth largest airline in Tampa Bay.
The new route comes a week after Allegiant announced its second largest network expansion in company history.
