A mining operator said he was in a negative headspace after splitting from his partner when police found him drug-driving in Moranbah.
Samuel James Slater faced Mackay Magistrates Court on May 19 after he was caught driving with methylamphetamine in his system along Mills Ave, Moranbah at 9.21pm on March 12.
Acting magistrate Leanne Scoines said the father-of-two was “rolling the dice” risking his livelihood with what was “completely unacceptable conduct”.
Ms Scoines fined the 29 year old, who pleaded guilty to driving with a relevant drug in his saliva, $500 and disqualified his licence for one month.
No conviction was recorded. ....

A Sarina man remains on bail six months after he was allegedly found with thousands of child exploitation images including sadism.
Queensland law states category four material relates to penetrative sexual activity either between children or between children and adults.
Category five material includes sadism, bestiality or humiliation including urination, defecation, vomit and bondage or child abuse.
Mr Farmer is facing nine counts of possessing child exploitation material, using a carriage service to access child abuse material between January 27, 2019 and October 30, 2020 and unlawfully possessing a category a, b or m weapon on October 30, 2020.
When Magistrate Bronwyn Hartigan granted him bail on November 2, she told the then 55 year old he had a clear predilection towards children and would face a lengthy imprisonment if found guilty. ....

An alleged drug debt enforcer is accused of threatening to “bash, deprive the liberty and torture” addicts who owe money in a series of messages revealed in court.
Despite the “concerning” nature of the 38 year old’s alleged conduct, he was granted bail because there was nothing specifying what drugs he was accused of trafficking.
Luke Daniel Mckenzie was arrested last week after police allegedly found $180,000 cash in cryovac bags and encrypted phones stashed in a mattress of his West Mackay home.
He is charged with trafficking, possessing tainted property, and possessing anything used in the commission of a crime after officers raided the Lansdowne Road property. ....

Drunk pest told 'jail or 240 hours community service'

A Mackay magistrate told a serial drunken pest he had two options – either complete the maximum number of community service hours or receive a jail term.
The 23 year old, who has since moved to Western Australia, had been highly intoxicated at his own going away party when he committed his seventh public nuisance offence in five years.
Brodie Jordan Arnold, through his solicitor, had pushed for the mandatory minimum penalty of 40 hours community service allowing him to soon return to the west coast, but Magistrate Bronwyn Hartigan said, “absolutely no way”.
Mackay Magistrates Court heard on November 29, 2020 Arnold’s friends had been trying to get him in a taxi on Victoria Street but he was swearing and pushing his friends. ....
