Grey and Bruce communities hope to see provincial support for pandemic aid and some highway improvements after talks with Provincial government officials at the ROMA conference this week.
The Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference was held Monday and Tuesday (Jan 25-26) with local municipal and County representatives among the roughly 11 hundred people in attendance virtually this year.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker, who tries to accompany and support the bulk of local municipalities at ROMA, says “There’s certainly concerns about social services and those types of things and what’s going to happen after the pandemic.” He adds, a lot more people may be in more challenging situations, so how to we address this?” ....

The Batongguan Traversing Trail (八通關越道路) was built during the Japanese era in order to provide a transportation link between the East and West, and a means to control the Aboriginal population in the mountains. Construction began in 1919 and the entire 125-kilometer project was completed just a year and a half later. It was used until 1944, when the financial strain of the war effort forced its abandonment. ....
