NORRISTOWN — An August trial date has been set for a Maryland man accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend at her Lower Moreland home. William Tomas Torres, 63, of Elkton, Md., will face a Montgomery County Court jury on Aug. 23 when his trial is slated to get under way in connection with the alleged Nov. 25, 2019, fatal shooting of 57-year-old Jeanne Edwards. The trial before Judge William R. Carpenter is expected to last five days. The trial date was scheduled after a conference between the judge and the lawyers in the case. - Advertisement - Jury trials were suspended in the county in March 2020 as a precaution when the coronavirus pandemic surfaced. Montgomery County Public Defender announces Community Resource Fairs in Norristown and Pottstown

NORRISTOWN The Montgomery County Office of the Public Defender announced two outdoor Community Resource Fairs being held on April 24 and May 8 featuring a wide range of important resources and organizations to share with the community. These gatherings will highlight the newly authorized Expedited Pardon Program available for people with nonviolent marijuana-related convictions in the Commonwealth. The Montgomery County Public Defender’s Office is leading an effort to educate and assist people with such records in Montgomery County. Through a fast-track review process offered by the Pennsylvania Board of Pardons, people who have suffered job insecurity as a result of the pandemic can get expedited assistance to improve their quality of life. These events will educate the public about this program and provide guidance on how to successfully apply for a pardon.
