NORRISTOWNÂ â An August trial date has been set for a Maryland man accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend at her Lower Moreland home.
William Tomas Torres, 63, of Elkton, Md., will face a Montgomery County Court jury on Aug. 23 when his trial is slated to get under way in connection with the alleged Nov. 25, 2019, fatal shooting of 57-year-old Jeanne Edwards.
The trial before Judge William R. Carpenter is expected to last five days. The trial date was scheduled after a conference between the judge and the lawyers in the case.

Jury trials were suspended in the county in March 2020 as a precaution when the coronavirus pandemic surfaced. With vaccinations increasing and the COVID-19 positivity rate decreasing in the county jury trials are now being scheduled for late summer and early fall.

CHELTENHAM â A Cheltenham man accused of the gunshot slayings of his wife and mother-in-law during a domestic disturbance in the home they shared is facing a trial in Montgomery County Court.
Frederick Lee Clea, 58, of the 7700 block of Green Valley Road, was held for trial on Thursday, after a preliminary hearing before District Court Judge Christopher J. Cerski, on two counts each of first- and third-degree murder and a single count of possessing an instrument of crime in connection with the alleged July 25 fatal shootings of his wife, Latiya, 41, and his mother-in-law, Mekenda Sanders, 75, inside their home in the Wyncote section of the township.
