The core message that came from the six locals who placed at the East Super Regional tournament, last Saturday, was just getting to the state podium was not enough.
Finishing top four from the super regional locked in their trips to the podium, last week.
Saturday, in the Class 3A PIAA Championships at the Giant Center in Hershey, climbing the podium is the objective. All eight contestants in each bracket have guaranteed medals, meaning someone in each bracket will go 0-3 and still walk away with an eighth-place finish.
For Downingtown East’s Keanu Manuel (120 pounds) and Matt Romanelli (172), Downingtown West’s Dom Findora (126), Coatesville’s Nate Lucier (132), Kennett’s Trent Kochersperger (138) and West Chester Henderson’s Sammy McMonagle (145), getting to Hershey was no easy task, but finding wins there will be much tougher, with the lion’s share of the talent coming from the West super regional.

DOWNINGTOWN The West Chester East boys basketball team lost an average of 45 points per game from 2020 to 2021, thanks to the graduation of Andrew Carr and Tym Richardson, from a squad that won the Ches-Mont League and District 1 Class 5A championship.
But that was merely a bump in the road for the Vikings.
The 2021 Vikings finished with the best record in the Ches-Mont League National Division, and clinched a spot in Monday’s Ches-Mont crossover game against American Division champ West Chester Rustin, with a decisive 61-55 win over host Downingtown West Saturday at Wagner Gymnasium.

The Malvern Prep swimming team is preparing to dive into the pool for the winter 2021 season, led by All-American junior diver Nick Harris, who was the Inter-Ac, National Catholic and Easterns 1-meter diving champion in 2020.
Harris won by a comfortable margin at Easterns, compiling 567.25 points, comfortably ahead of second-place finisher Rowland Lawver of Hun School (442.45). His favorite memory of the 2019-20 Malvern Prep swimming season was at National Catholics.

“I really enjoy that meet because the diving is at the same place as the swimming, and I’m with my teammates,” said Harris. “I also faced good competition there.”
