New Delhi, June 2 : Centre backed Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an international non-profit organisation CLASP for the deployment of high-quality energy efficiency technologies.
Accordingly, the wholly owned subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and CLASP will set up a monitoring and quality assurance cell for products used in decentralised solar power generation, home-based energy efficient appliances, and other products. ....

Syska to distribute LED bulbs in rural areas for Rs 10 under Gram Ujala

In a first of a kind project, Syska LED will distribute LED bulbs in rural areas at Rs 10 per piece and be partially paid back in carbon credits. Under the Gram Ujala scheme by Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL), bidders were invited for co-investment on a revenue sharing basis, where costs and profits would be shared with CESL.
“In this tender, Syska is downside protected through a fixed price offered by CESL; upside from carbon credits is shared in equal proportion between the two parties,” said a statement by CESL.
CESL is a 100 per cent subsidiary of EESL Limited, which focuses on energy solutions that lie at the confluence of renewable energy, electric mobility, and climate change. Gram Ujala scheme was launched by the ministry of power this year to give LED bulbs in rural areas at Rs 10 per piece, without any subsidy support and financed entirely through carbon credits. ....

Public sector company Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) has dipped into the carbon markets for funding its LED lamp distribution programme in rural areas.
EESL is an ‘ESCO’ or ‘energy services company’. It makes available to consumers energy efficiency appliances at its cost and lets them pay for it through the savings in their electricity bills. It began in 2014 with its ‘flagship’ product, LED bulbs, which remains its biggest success, even though it distributes several other products, such as electric motors and water pumps. Between 2014 and 2020, EESL distributed 365 million LED bulks, through the ESCO model, which has earned the company universal approbation, especially from the International Energy Agency. ....

Convergence Energy Services plans to solarise village-level feeders across India
Convergence Energy Services Ltd, the newly-established subsidiary of state-owned Energy Efficiency Services Ltd, will receive a capital infusion of ₹600-700 crore from its parent company to kick off its asset-heavy business operations.
In an interview with
BusinessLine, climate finance expert Mahua Acharya, who has been appointed as CEO of CESL, spoke about the new firm’s strategy and goals.

What is CESL’s initial capital base? What will be your fund-raising strategy?
