At least 17 people died as cyclone Tauktae ravaged coastal districts of Saurashtra after crashing into the coast near Diu and Una late on Monday night at a speed of nearly 165 kmph. Five deaths were reported in Bhavnagar district alone, while eight other districts including Amreli, Gir-Somnath, Panchamahal accounted for the rest of the casualties. The details of the deceased are as follows: 01. A 58-year-old female from Mahawa. She was diagnosed as infected with the COVID-19 virus while receiving treatment at Galgamuwa District Hospital and transferred to Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, where she died on 17.04.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as Severe Acute Respiratory Disease Syndrome due to Covid pneumonia. 02. An 84-year-old male from Marassana. He was diagnosed as infected with COVID-19 virus while receiving treatment at Kandy National Hospital and transferred to Theldeniya Base Hospital, where he died on 19.04.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as Severe Covid pneumonia in the background of Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, Dyslipidaemia, and Heart Failure. ....
