LAOJoe, (shout out to him) I also participated in a collaborative draft/FA/UDFA exercise recently (picking for the Eagles). Each GM was from the fanbase of the team they were representing). It was fun but time-consuming, and the main thing I learned is it is much tougher drafting against 31 other real people than against a simulator. This was a multi-step exercise, that went like this:
Salary Cap
Overall you were required to cut/trade/rework contracts to get under the cap or be penalized picks, just like the NFL. I used the Fanspeak Manage the Cap tool to do just what the Eagles did and rework and cut as many contracts as possible. I realize it s not good for the team, but those are the cards Howie has dealt us. So my strategy was to get under ....

Pick 9 - Trade with Dallas for Pick 10 and Pick 115 (they take Jaycee Horn)
Pick 9 , Trey Lance, QB ND State - I think this happens if the rumors are correct and the 49ers lack Mac Jones (which I think is a huge mistake). While I could see us trading back, I think Paton if Lance falls to 9 has to take him. He will have not spent any draft capital to move up and you have a guy who many say is one of the most athletic prospects coming out but also the smartest QB coming out. While I get he will likely not be ready right away, he actually has more snaps under center than the other QBs on the board and has operated a pro-light system at ND State. With Bridgewater here, it gives the Broncos some very good options at QB in the coming years, if Drew Lock progresses then great, you either stick with him and have a guy you can maybe move or move Lock for some dra ....

I am excited for this draft, it seems like it has taken forever to get here and it remains quite unpredictable here about 24 hours until the first pick. I hope the Bengals have a good plan in place as the holes left to fill are important ones. Pass Rush, a couple O-lineman to help protect the franchise from ever being beat like he was as a rookie and a couple of Receivers to add some more fresh legs and life into the room after losing the likes of Green Ross and Erickson. I have gone back and forth about the last two picks and for now I guess I am going to go with best available (I know that s kind of a cop out but really it could be a lot of different positions.) So I will go thru what I would do and what I think the Bengals will do ....
