Congresswoman Cheri Bustos visited a job fair at the United States Penitentiary, Thomson, on Friday morning, saying help is just around the corner. The prison is regarded as one of the most understaffed federal prisons in the country. As of July 23, USP Thomson had 118 job openings. We reported a few months ago that things had gotten so bad, other staff members - including nurses and phycologists - had been forced to work as guards. ....

A Vacation Bible School in Kewanee, Illinois, is now being linked to several positive covid cases. Around 50 kids attended the week-long event at First Christian Church, who says they took swift action when they found out what was happening. Now, the Henry & Stark County Health Department is warning anyone who could be linked to the event, held from July 12-15, to take precautions. Even a week later, the department says they re still seeing new positive cases arise, that can be traced back to the church. ....

Now, the final 1,000 lines are set to be removed by next fall. The city is in the fifth of six phases when it comes to lead pipe replacement. Their contractor plans to remove 500 lines this summer, beginning July 19, and wrap up the last 500 lines next year. ....
