Free childcare for Ontario’s frontline workers

Ontario is offering free childcare to many frontline and essential workers during the stay-at-home orders and shutdown of Ontario’s schools. (Picture prior to the pandemic)

As students are set to continue to learn virtually for the foreseeable future, Ontario is offering free childcare for eligible frontline workers starting April 19, which includes grocery store employees, healthcare staff, construction workers and more.
“We’ve known that parents in Kenora–Rainy River need access to emergency childcare now and that is why our government has worked with local service boards to offer free childcare starting next Monday,” said Greg Rickford, MPP for Kenora–Rainy River. ....

More than two million dollars have been doled out to area organizations for mental health and justice programs.
Fort Frances Tribal Area Health Services is receiving almost $1.2 million to continue support services for victims of human trafficking.
The Fort Frances Branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association gets $834-thousand to expand a mobile crisis response team and fund a modified safe bed program.
Rainy River District Social Services Board is receiving $106-thousand to help the area’s homelessness.
