Ludhiana: As the city residents struggle to cope with traffic snarls and lack of proper space for parking amid construction and repair work, lack of coordination between various departments seems to be a cause of concern. Talking to the TOI, the joint commissioner of police (Traffic) Deepak Pareek talked about these issues and shared his views on the upcoming traffic-related projects in the city, which may help give much-needed relief to residents. Why is Ludhiana traffic police not able to handle traffic jams due to development projects and haphazard parking? Ideally when a project is started, the department concerned whether it is municipal corporation or National Highway Authority of India has to keep the traffic police in the loop so that a proper diversion plan can be made and people also get parking space. Engineer Kapil Arora alleged that nine trees with ages varying around three to 35 years were axed by MC near Community Centre of BRS Nagar, Canal Bridge Ludhiana and the matter was raised with the chief conservator of forests (plain zones) as well as district forest officer of Ludhiana on March 30. Even in posh areas, at Malhar Road and Pakhowal Road, stretches are dug up. Such roads not only cause damage to the vehicles, but also create a traffic mess, as drivers have to repeatedly reduce speed on encountering potholes and damaged portions, which are aplenty. In Focal Point area where my office is, except for a few roads all others are in a shambles,” says Daleep Khanna, an industrialist from Sarabha Nagar who owns an Audi. “People here have a craze for luxury cars and despite paying heavy taxes to the government, they do not get good roads,” he adds. He claims that because of bad roads his clients don’t come to his office and even he feels embarrassed to invite them. ....
LUDHIANA: A day after the municipal corporation closed Pakhowal Road for the construction of a railway overbridge and an under-bridge at the railway crossing, the old bridge on Sidhwan canal near MC zone D office was also closed on Wednesday as a new bridge would replace the old one. The new bridge will be wider than the old one. This bridge allows traffic from BRS Nagar to Sarabha Nagar and other parts of the city. Due to closure of the bridge the entire pressure of the traffic got shifted to the other side of the bridge and long queues of vehicles were also seen on both side of the roads. ....
