The Standards Organisastion of Nigeria (S0N) has said the agency’s ultra-modern laboratory located at Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos can now be used to test all required quality parameters of sandcrete blocks. Disclosing the development after a successful testing demonstration exercise recently, SON Director in charge of Laboratory services, Bath Ugwu, appealed to operators, block moulders and other stakeholders to approach the Ogba cement laboratory to test and certify sandcrete blocks for quality buildings. x Sandcrete blocks are among the major components of buildings. By deploying a compressive strength testing machine with a belt in the local requirements based on Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS) 978-2017 samples are tested to determine sound and quality sandcrete blocks. ....

James Emejo in Abuja The Director General/Chief Executive, Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Mr. Farouk Salim, has said the agency is prepared to partner stakeholders in the healthcare delivery sector to enhance the quality of equipment, machinery and services being offered in the country. He said health practitioners should take due advantage of the offshore conformity assessment programme for SON-regulated imports (SONCAP) to improve the quality of products being offered to Nigerians. Speaking at the 45th National Convention of the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigerian Students (PANS), held recently in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Salim said the assessment provides a window of import permit for raw materials equipment and machinery. ....

National Vice President of MAN, North West Zone, Alhaji Ali Madugu made the call in Kano while receiving the Director General, SON, Mallam Farouk Salim who was on a working visit to the state recently. According to him, the commencement of the AfCFTA further underscores the need for SON’s presence at the entry points to prevent Nigeria from being turned into a dumping ground of substandard, fake and counterfeited products from other African Countries. ....
