SON to boost manufacturing, export with accredited laboratories

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria has announced plans to boost the nation’s manufacturing industry with its newly accredited laboratories.
The SON said on Thursday that it was also targeting an increased level of export of locally made goods to the international market.
The Director-General, SON, Mallam Farouk Salim, said this during the unveiling of the laboratories accredited by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation in Ogba, Lagos.
He said manufacturers would be encouraged to produce more, adding that products certified and tested in the accredited laboratories would gain acceptance anywhere in the world.
He said many manufacturers had said that their products were rejected even by local companies because their products were not certified. ....

By Jimoh Babatunde Manufacturers in the country have been urged to make use of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) test laboratories for testing, analyses, and certifications of essential products in the country.
The Director-General, Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON, Mallam Farouk Salim, made the call following international accreditation awarded to Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) test laboratories recently.
The labs have been accredited after the successful completion of evaluation processes by the American Association of Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) following the recognised international standards.

SON seizes N600m substandard tyres, laments absence at port -

Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has made seizures of substandard tyres worth N600 million, just as it lamented its absence at the nation’s ports.
Speaking at an enforcement exercise carried out at a warehouse along Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Director General, SON, Mallam Farouk Salim, said that the tyres were stuffed in over 100 containers, which makes the thread lose integrity.
Salim said that the tyres has no economic value and are like time bombs waiting to explode, maintaining that SON will stop at nothing to ensure that substandard tyres do not find their ways into the hands of unsuspecting consumers in the country. ....
