Bill to simplify COVID-19 vaccination registration introduced


Pennsylvanians who have grown frustrated about navigating the state’s decentralized system in search of the COVID-19 vaccine could have an alternative.
A new bill introduced Monday in the state House of Representatives seeks to create a centralized COVID-19 vaccination registry for people who want to get the vaccine.
The “COVID-19 Vaccine Registry Act” would require the Pennsylvania Department of Health to maintain a database where residents could schedule a vaccine appointment for themselves, their spouses or significant others, and their families.
Vaccine providers would be required access the registry and prioritize registrants for scheduling appointments, which would prevent people from spending hours trying to find and sign up for available appointments. ....

Fayette County COVID-19 Vaccine Taskforce announces registry during first clinic


Fayette County has instituted an online COVID-19 vaccine registry and held its first vaccination clinic Monday at the Uniontown Mall.
The registry can be accessed by clicking on the yellow COVID-19 box at fayettecountypa.org, and navigating to the “individual registration” tab.
Monday’s clinic was hosted by WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital.
“Just 20 days ago, the (county’s vaccine) task force met for the first time,” said Muriel Nuttall, executive director of the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce and co-lead of the task force. “In 20 days, we’re sitting at our first community clinic, and that’s pretty incredible.”
Nuttall said that the hospital will be able to vaccinate 5,400 people by Sunday now that the clinic is open. ....

East Bay filmmaker Ralston Louie dies in swimming pool accident

In his documentary short films, Ralston Louie loved to break down stereotypes about the Chinese American experience in the 21st century. That was his own life story, which sharply contrasted his deep  Shanghai/Cantonese family traditions with his resume as a multi-sport athlete at Piedmont High School, a varsity soccer player at Williams College, a skier and a triathlete in training.
On the morning of Jan. 31, Louie drove from his parents’ home in Piedmont to Pacifica so he could surf. Later in the day, he went to his sister’s apartment complex in Oakland to spend his usual two hours swimming laps in an unheated outdoor pool. Around 1 p.m., a passing resident spotted something at the bottom of the pool and jumped in. Louie was rushed ....
