KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. – A Kings Mountain police officer was shot Saturday evening near Kings Mountain Country Club.  Corporal Frank Lee Whittington Jr. was wounded in his abdomen and taken to a hospital in Shelby where he is now recovering from surgery. The suspect was shot by the officer and transported to a hospital in Gastonia where he also required surgery.

Police responded to a call reporting a suspicious individual outside a residence on Downing Drive in Kings Mountain at 8:01 PM. The suspect headed towards the country club, where Whittington encountered the individual and the exchange of gunfire took place. ....
