Colorado’s kids need our help. Our state is not just dealing with the continuing health, social and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Data from the most recent America’s Health Rankings shows that even before the pandemic started, Colorado youth had comparatively low high school graduation rates (ranked 44th in the country), and higher rates of teen suicide (43rd in the country). Most public health challenges such as these have been exacerbated this past year, as COVID has undermined normal, healthy routines by isolating people from one another and causing higher levels of anxiety and depression. To help address these issues, Rocky Mountain Health Plans, a UnitedHealthcare company, recently announced a $30 million donation to increase access to health care and support communities across Colorado. ....
Although the Colorado Springs Senior Center has been closed since March 15, Seniors can still get free meals through the center thanks to Silver Key. Every Monday, from 11:30 to 12:30, five frozen meals with a variety of fresh fruit and milk will be passed out to Seniors. Rocky Mountain Health Plans, a UnitedHealth Group company, donated $30 million Tuesday to help increase access to health care and support Western Slope communities. The donation, which Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser helped secure, includes a $25 million contribution to the Rocky Mountain Health Foundation to fund STEM education for young women and people of color, along with a slew of other programs. An additional $5 million is being given to support several other nonprofit groups that provide mental health support and opportunities for youth. Read tomorrowâs Daily Sentinel for more. ....
