United Nations, April 26 : United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres commended all countries that have reached the target of zero malaria.
We commend all countries that have reached the ambitious target of zero malaria, said the secretary-general in his message for the World Malaria Day, which falls on April 25 annually, Xinhua news agency reported on Sunday. ....

World Malaria Day: NAWOJ Advocates for Zero Malaria in Nigeria

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has urged the federal government to demonstrate strong political will towards eliminating malaria in the country.
A statement issued by the National President of NAWOJ, Ms. Ladi Bala, in commemoration of the 2021 World Malaria Day, noted that Nigeria bears the brunt of malaria burden and should, therefore, lead the campaign to stamp it out by 2030.
Bala also said that individuals must also take personal responsibility to eliminate malaria in the country, adding that zero malaria begins with every Nigerian.
The statement reads: ‘’According to the 2019 World Malaria Report, Nigeria had the highest number of global malaria cases (25 percent of global malaria cases) in 2018 and accounted for the highest number of deaths (24 percent of global malaria deaths). ....

Dr Adham: Malaysia to focus on zoonotic malaria

PUTRAJAYA: After Malaysia achieves the target of zero case local human malaria infection, the Health Ministry (MOH) will also expand its focus on malaria related to animal (zoonotic) infections, said its Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba.
He said that Malaysia has managed to achieve the target of zero cases of indigenous human malaria infection for three consecutive years from 2018 to 2020 nationwide.
“Despite the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, Malaysia continues its efforts, especially in the elimination of malaria,” he said in his opening speech at the national-level celebration of the 2021 World Malaria Day today.
For the record, the number of malaria cases in the country was successfully reduced from 250,000 cases a year in 1961 to 12,000 in 2000. ....

Awareness events held across Ramban to mark World Malaria Day

Ramban: Awareness events were today held across Ramban district to mark the World Malaria Day Malaria Day, 2021.
The Health Department disseminated awareness about the preventive measures and treatment of deadly disease.
World Malaria Day was also observed in other medical blocks of the district including Gool, Banihal, Ukhral and Batote on the theme “Reaching the zero malaria targets” .
The major awareness programme was held at District Hospital Ramban, which was presided over by the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Mohammad Fareed Bhat. Several doctors and paramedical workers made people aware about the precautions against Malaria.
In his address, the CMO said that the day aims at taking urgent action for the control of the deadly disease. Malaria is a life-threatening disease that is caused by the bites of infected mosquitoes. It is the Female Anopheles mosquitoes who spread the Plasmodium parasite through their saliva, which causes malaria, he added. ....
