Today, we commemorate World Malaria Day under this year’s theme, “Draw a Line for Malaria Free Zambia.” Each year, World Malaria Day highlights global efforts to control malaria, acknowledging the progress we have made in prevention and treatment and emphasizing the work that remains in the fight against this deadly disease. This year’s celebration comes at a critical time in our efforts to eliminate malaria in Zambia. In 2020, we saw the first increases in the number of people getting sick and dying from malaria in years. So it is fitting that this year’s theme is about drawing the line against malaria.
