MPI to maintain double-digit US$ sales growth


Bhd (MPI) is expected to maintain double-digit US$ sales growth in the financial year ending June 2022 (FY6/22F), driven by robust demand for power management chips for electric vehicles (EVs) and data centres, a research house says.
CGS-CIMB Equities Research said MPI’s nine-month period ended March 31,2021 (9MFY6/21) core net profit beat expectations, at 84%/80% of its/Bloomberg consensus’ forecasts, due to stronger-than-expected sales in 3QFY21.
Its revenue grew 8.8% quarter-on-quarter (qoq) to RM527mil in 3QFY6/21 due to stronger contributions from all key markets Asia (+7%), USA (+9.8%) and Europe (+13.3%). In US$ terms, MPI’s revenue rose 10% qoq in 3QFY21.
CGS-CIMB Research estimated Carsem’s plant in Ipoh and Suzhou were running at full capacity in the quarter. ....

KUALA LUMPUR, May 4 Bursa Malaysia turned positive at mid-morning on renewed buying in selected heavyweight counters, led by Hartalega and Petronas Chemicals.
Hartalega’s shares rose by 22 sen to RM10.20 per unit, while Petronas Chemicals increased eight sen to RM8.25.
At 11.05 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 2.92 points to 1,593.65 from Monday’s close of 1,590.73.
The index opened 0.94 of-a-point better at 1,591.67. ....

KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 Bursa Malaysia opened higher but retreated thereafter, as earlier gains were snapped by mild profit-taking in plantation and technology counters amid mixed performance on the regional markets, dealers said.
At 9.30am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slipped 5.49 points to 1,603.01 compared to 1,608.50 at Wednesday s close.
The market bellwether opened 6.71 points higher at 1,615.21.
Overall market breadth was negative with losers leading gainers 344 to 315, while 398 counters were unchanged, 1,134 untraded and 51 others suspended. ....

Tech stocks soar on shift towards digital services

An analyst with a local bank-backed brokerage attributed the strong performance of local tech stocks to the large shift towards digital services that has been accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The global pandemic has fuelled the growth for technology. With the concept of work-from-home and distant learning becoming the standard operating procedure, there has been a rise in demand for laptops while data centres have also ramped up their capacity to handle the surge in web computing usage.
“Today, the reliance on tech to get things done has never been greater.”
Rackspace Technology Asia-Pacific and Japan chief technology officer Emma Pudney in a commentary recently said organisations will be looking for ways to recover from the pandemic and serve new consumers with reimagined business models, going into 2021. ....
