PETALING JAYA: Various industries and trade associations have pleaded with the government not to resort to a full movement control order (MCO) as it will hurt the economy and affect people’s livelihoods, even as the number of new Covid-19 infections hit a record high for the second consecutive day, with 6,806 cases today.
The new wave of infections breached the threshold of 3,000 new cases daily in May and have continued to rise rapidly in spite of tighter movement restrictions. This has sparked fears of a return to the first MCO that limited economic activities to essential businesses, especially for Selangor, which has the highest number of cases in the country. ....

Plastic waste is a huge problem in Malaysia, due to large amounts of plastic waste both in the country and imported from overseas.
However, the recent calls for a total blanket ban on imported plastic waste has raised concerns from the plastic recycling industry in Malaysia, claiming that an outright blanket ban is unsustainable and does not help solve the issue.
In a joint statement by the Malaysian Plastics Manufacturers Association (MPMA) and the Malaysian Plastics Recyclers Association (MPRA), they claim that the war on plastics should focus on the better management of plastics, not a blanket ban. ....

KUALA LUMPUR: Over 200 undergraduates and lecturers had the opportunity to hear from industry veterans across the spectrum of the plastics industry in a two-day webinar held recently.
Titled the Malaysian Plastics Manufacturers Association (MPMA)-Chevron Phillips Chemical ‘Why Plastics?’ Webinar 2020, it was held in collaboration with the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) Malaysia.
The webinar was designed as an information-sharing avenue between academia and industry to address misconceptions of the plastics industry, the complexities of the plastics pollution issue, and how the industry is striving to achieve its sustainability goals. ....
