Disasters, be they man-made or natural, are part of life. But whenever tragedy strikes, we see hope in the form of humanitarian efforts springing into action, as well as various fundraising initiatives to help mitigate the effects of the aftermath.
The Star, as a media organisation and a company, has been playing a role in spearheading fundraising campaigns for various causes since its inception in 1971.
Here’s a look at such efforts held over the decades:
1. Star Frontliners Initiative (2020)
In support of Malaysia’s dedicated frontliners in the ongoing battle against Covid-19, SMG and Star Foundation established the Star Frontliners Initiative in March 2020. THE Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) and Pfizer Malaysia have signed a memorandum of understanding to help increase psychosocial support for Malaysians dealing with challenges brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The collaboration between MRCS and Pfizer Malaysia will also focus on health screening and awareness programmes targeted at the B40 community in Malaysia.
The programmes include three mediums: the Redcrescent4u Careline , mobilising volunteers to remote areas of Malaysia through the Care-A-Van x MyVac programme and health webinars.
The RedCrescent4u Careline will operate daily from 8am to 6pm, providing support to individuals who seek psychological support and information on Covid-19 and vaccination while the Care-A-Van x MyVac programme will mobilise CAV volunteers to rural areas of Malaysia for the purpose of health screening, vaccination assistance and awareness progr ....

Kuala Lumpur: The Covid-19 vaccines currently being used in the country are still effective in protecting the recipients against the UK B.1.1.7 and South African B.1.351 variants, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba
(pic).
However, he said the Ministry of Health (MOH) was still awaiting reports from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United States Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) relating to the effects of the vaccines against the two variants.
“We found that the existing vaccines that have been used so far were capable of fighting (the virus) and giving protection to the recipients. But we are also awaiting reports from the WHO and CDC relating to the effects (of the vaccines) and whether the two variants could cause the vaccine to be ineffective.” ....
