CALGARY – A further adjournment has been granted to Calgary parents accused of neglecting their dependent, adult son as talks continue to try to resolve the case.
The man weighed just 43 pounds when he was found last October.
Jonathon Grunewald, who is 52, and Malinda Phillips, who is 47, were charged in January with failing to provide the necessaries of life and negligence causing bodily harm.
The couple’s lawyers requested the case be adjourned to June 2 so they can pursue “ongoing discussions” with the Crown. ....

Negotiations for a possible resolution to a case involving a Calgary couple accused of neglecting their dependent adult son are ongoing, the court was told Wednesday.
Defence counsel for the couple asked that the case be put over two more weeks. Rebecca Snukal appeared in provincial court on behalf of her client, Malinda Phillips, while lawyer Michael Bates is representing Jonathon Grunewald.

The Calgary parents accused of neglecting their dependent adult son, who weighed 44 pounds when they were arrested, are in talks to possibly resolve their criminal charges, court heard Wednesday.
Defence counsel Rebecca Snukal, who acts for Malinda Phillips, asked provincial court Judge Mark Tyndale to adjourn the case until May 3, while she and fellow defence lawyer Michael Bates continue negotiations with Crown prosecutor Janice Walsh.
