Tulane economist Gary Hoover selected to inaugural Nobel Prize Summit


 
Gary “Hoov” Hoover, the director of Tulane University’s Murphy Institute and a leading economist on issues of economic policy and its impact on inequality, is among a group of 40 Nobel Prize laureates and global innovators selected for the inaugural Nobel Prize Summit, April 26-28, 2021. Research workshop focuses scholars on costs of racial inequity

Melanie Richardson, right, co-founder and executive director of childcare education nonprofit TrainingGround, was one of more than 50 scholars and practitioners who developed grant proposals as part of Count the Costs Research Weekend, a workshop aimed at helping researchers quantify the effects of racial inequity in the U.S.
Researchers from Tulane and other universities came together in March for a three-day workshop aimed at helping scholars quantify the effects of racial inequity in the United States.
Hosted by the Albert Lepage Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Tulane’s A. B. Freeman School of Business, Count the Costs Research Weekend brought together scholars from a variety of academic disciplines to develop research proposals that investigate the barriers that BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) experience in our society, the economic impact of those barriers and viable approaches to addressing them. ....

Lepage Center to award $100,000 in research grants to Tulane faculty and students studying costs of racial inequity

The Albert Lepage Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Tulane University’s A. B. Freeman School of Business is collaborating with researchers from across the university to host a three-day workshop aimed at counting the costs of racial inequity in the United States.
“Count the Costs Research Weekend,” which takes place March 12 to 14, will bring together scholars from many academic disciplines to develop research proposals that investigate the barriers that BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) experience in our society, the economic impact of those barriers and viable approaches to addressing them. Participants can then use their proposals to apply for one of five research grants to be awarded from a funding pool of $100,000. For the health and safety of participants, the event will take place virtually. ....

BUNKER HILL Beth Rull saw some positives in COVID-19, which is quite remarkable considering that the past year has been the most challenging health year of her life – and very little of it had to do with the pandemic.
Rull, a Bunker Hill resident and a counselor in the Gillespie School District had a double mastectomy performed at Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis on April 2. The rest of the year was spent with various combinations of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, including radiation therapy at Alton Memorial Hospital’s Cancer Care Center under the watchful eye of Dr. Gregory Vlacich and his team. ....
