Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) has appointed a 12-member Multilateral Healthcare Insurance Committee (MHIC), due to be officially established from 27 April 2021, to provide a platform for healthcare providers, payers, consumer representatives and the government to jointly address issues related to health insurance.
Comprising representatives from the Academy of Medicine Singapore (AMS), Consumer Association of Singapore (CASE), Fee Benchmarks Advisory Committee (FBAC), Life Insurance Association (LIA), Singapore Medical Association (SMA) and private hospitals, the MHIC will provide a platform for doctors, insurer, hospitals and the MOH to work together with the goal of enhancing Singapore’s health insurance system, promoting quality, safety, and affordability for Singaporeans. ....

Doctor claims trial to four charges of molesting woman

An anaesthesiologist, who is a director of a clinic at the two Mount Elizabeth hospitals, claimed trial yesterday to four charges of molesting a woman.
Yeo Sow Nam, 52, is accused of committing the offences on the 12th storey of the hospital in Orchard Road on the evening of Oct 9, 2017. He is represented by lawyers Eugene Thuraisingam, Chooi Jing Yen and Johannes Hadi.
Court documents said Yeo allegedly performed acts such as gripping the 32-year-old woman s breasts with his hands and squeezing her waist with his hand. He is also accused of pulling her towards him and kissing her on the head. ....

New Singapore obstetrics and gynaecology research network established

Singapore s three public hospitals offering maternity services - KK Women s and Children s Hospital (KKH), Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and the National University Hospital (NUH), have established a collaborative research network, Singapore Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research Network (SORN), to better synergise and promote high quality translational research. The aim is to improve health outcomes of future generations of women, children and families in Singapore.
Established in July 2020, SORN is the first obstetrics and gynaecology research network in Singapore, and was mooted by KKH, SGH, and NUH. The inaugural Chair at SORN is Professor Jerry Chan, Senior Consultant, Department of Reproductive Medicine, KKH, and Senior National Medical Research Council Clinician Scientist. Study by new research group looks at 16 women in S'pore infected by Covid-19 while pregnant

SINGAPORE - When auxiliary police officer Nurshila Zainal tested positive for Covid-19, it was more than just her life on the line, as at the time, she was 25 weeks pregnant.
All six of my other family members had already tested positive, so before I tested positive, I was very anxious , she said in an interview on Friday morning (Dec 18).
Thankfully, the 35-year-old mother of two recovered, and her baby daughter, who was born in July, was found to be virus-free. Both mother and daughter subsequently tested positive for antibodies against the disease.
Madam Nurshila is one of 16 women in Singapore who tested positive for Covid-19 while pregnant during the pandemic, and were all part of a recently released 16-patient study on the effect of Covid-19 on pregnant women. ....
