PETALING JAYA: Three thousand Malaysian adults will be invited to participate in the phase three clinical trials for a new vaccine manufactured by Chinese firm Shenzhen Kangtai Biological Products Co Ltd, says the Health Ministry.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the clinical study involving the inactivated vaccine was approved by the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Division (NPRA) on May 28.
The third phase of the clinical study of this vaccine would be conducted in eight research centres in Malaysia targeting the participation of 3,000 adults aged 18 and above and was expected to take 15 to 19 months, he said.
“The Health Ministry would like to inform that there is an addition of one clinical study, involving the product SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine (Vero Cells), Inactivated, 5μg/0.5mL manufactured by Shenzhen Kangtai Biological Products Co Ltd from China.

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Malaysians aged 60 and above can now volunteer for the third phase of clinical trials of the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine made by the Institute of Medical Biology Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (IMBCAMS).
In a Facebook post last night, Dr Noor Hisham shared a message from the Clinical Trials Centre under the National Health Institute of the Ministry of Health, which said the trials will be conducted at the centre in Hospital Ampang.

Kuala Lumpur: The Health Ministry (MOH) is looking for more volunteers to take part in phase 3 of Covid-19 vaccine clinical trial.
The MOH in a Twitter post said among the prescribed conditions are applicants must be over 18 years old and healthy.
Those interested to volunteer or seeking further information can contact the Clinical Research Centre (CRC) in nine hospitals via WhatsApp, namely the Ampang Hospital, Selangor (016-7286617, also Telegram); Sarawak General Hospital (012-3108108); Penang Hospital (014-9453599) and Seberang Jaya Hospital, Penang (014-9065518).
