Canadian explorer to attempt 1st human-powered crossing of Turks and Caicos Islands
This Canadian explorer kayaked the length of Lake Ontario last summer. Next month, he’ll swap the blue waters of Ontario’s Bruce Peninsula for those of Turks and Caicos to set records with a six-day expedition across the eight major islands.

(Bloomberg) Members of the Explorers Club have done all sorts of truly remarkable things.
Since the club’s founding in 1904, they’ve included the first summit of Mount Everest (by member Sir Edmund Hillary in 1953), the first trip to both the North and South poles (by members Robert Peary and Roald Amundsen, respectively), the first trip to the moon (Neil Armstrong, in ’69), and the first descent to the deepest point in the ocean (James Cameron, 2012).  
Besides belonging to the most prestigious club for adventurers, these trailblazers share another thing: They’re all white men. ....

From 1936 to 1966, 
The Negro Motorist Green Book and subsequent titles helped keep Black travelers and their families safe, with warnings about sundown towns, where people of color could face intimidation and violence after dark, and recommendations on the hotels, restaurants, and businesses that would welcome them.
