COLOMBO (News 1st); Religious leaders have called for the vote on the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill to be postponed.
Venerable Elle Gunawansa Thero and His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo speaking to reporters on Wednesday (19) called on the government to postpone this vote.
“Are the proposed amendments going to be included after the passage of the bill?,” said the Venerable Thero stressing that dual citizens should never be appointed to the Colombo Port City Commission. ....

FR filed against Cabraal over misappropriation of over Rs. 23 Bn

Colombo (News 1st); A Fundamental Rights application was filed with the Supreme Court on Monday (20) against State Minister Ajith Nivard Cabraal.
The application was filed by Venerable Theeniyawala Palitha Thero alleging State Minister Cabraal had misappropriated over Rs. 23 billion in public funds.
“Ajith Nivard Cabraal wasted public funds to the tune of USD 6.5 million which is around Rs. 1332 million in local currency to pay off US lobbyist Imaad Zuberi who is a secret agent of the Central Intelligence Agency,” alleged the Venerable Thero.
Imaad Zuberi is serving a prison term of 12 years in the United States, whilst the one who gave the money has entered parliament through the National List and is now serving as the Minister of Money enjoying certain luxuries, the Venerable Thero added. ....

Colombo (News 1st); ‘We will not allow Sri Lanka to become a Chinese Colony’, said Venerable Muruttettuwe Ananda Thero, the Chief Incumbent of the Abhayarama Temple in Narahenpita.
Speaking to reporters the Venerable Thero said the clergy do not oppose the Colombo Port City or investments, however, the Colombo Port City is posing a threat to Sri Lanka’s sovereignty and is to become a Chinese Colony.
The Venerable Thero was instrumental for the present government to be elected to power and he told reporters that the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and the present leadership were created from the Abhayarama Temple in Narahenpita. ....
