Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH) has finally agreed to allow maternal request C-sections at the John Radcliffe Hospital. The trust previously only allowed C-sections on suitable medical grounds. Women who choose an elective caesarean will first be able to discuss the pros and cons of caesarean versus vaginal birth with a consultant midwife and will be encouraged to see a psychiatrist if appropriate. Maria Booker, programmes director of Birthrights, a charity that works to improve women’s experience of pregnancy and childbirth, said: Birthrights are delighted that nearly four years after first raising this issue with Oxford University Hospitals, the trust have agreed to offer maternal request caesareans locally. ....
