Petersburg City and Schools Partnership is under new management

PETERSBURG  The city of Petersburg and Petersburg City Public Schools will jointly take over management of the Petersburg City and Schools Partnership from the United Way of Greater Richmond and Petersburg, the school division announced Thursday.
Founded in 2015 as part of then-Gov. Terry McAuliffe s Children s Cabinet, the Partnership serves to facilitate student success in Petersburg by forming a coalition of non-profits and other community members and organizations. There are over 200 organizations and individuals that are part of the coalition.
When the Children s Cabinet dissolved in 2017, the United Way took over backbone support of the Partnership, and now that support and management responsibility officially fell to the school division and city government on January 20. ....

Petersburg City Public Schools to remain virtual through April 1

PETERSBURG  Petersburg City Public Schools will remain closed to students for in-person learning through April 1, the Petersburg School Board decided Wednesday evening, according to a PCPS spokesperson. The vote was in accordance with the recommendation of superintendent Dr. Maria Pitre-Martin.
Petersburg has never moved in favor of opening up for in-person learning this school year, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Wednesday s decision means that it will have been over a full calendar year since students in Petersburg were able to attend in-person class, in early March of 2020.
In response to a survey ahead of the meeting, 71.4% of Petersburg families said that they would not send their child to school for in-person learning if it were offered, while 19.5% said yes, according to Pitre-Martin. ....
