BOULDER – Colorado women s tennis team heads to Arizona this weekend to take on Arizona Friday at 2:30 p.m. MT and then No.36/33-ranked Arizona State Saturday at noon.
Colorado (8-9, 2-5 Pac-12) is receiving votes in the ITA Women s Tennis Coaches Poll after coming off its 4-3 upset of Washington State Sunday. These are the final two regular season road matches for the Buffs 2021 season.
Sara Nayar is leading Colorado after upsetting both the No.52-ranked singles player in the nation and 86th-ranked player last weekend and going 4-0 with a pair of doubles wins as well. She is now 8-8 this season and 2-3 against ranked opponents.

BOULDER – Colorado tennis junior Sara Nayar took down her second ranked opponent of the weekend Sunday afternoon here to clinch a 4-3 defeat of Washington State.
We re super proud of the girls today we ve had a tough stretch the last six weeks or so and we just kept telling the girls we just got to keep sticking with it and stay together, stick with it and control the things that we can control, said assistant coach Anthony Nguyen Pham. We played better on Friday against Washington and today was another step in the right direction. Some of these matches they re so close and it s just a couple points here and there. Today we were fortunate to come out on the positivie side. We re just really proud of the ladies for the way they competed today, and just leaving it out there. Win or lose we left it out there and happy for them we really earned this one.

Roller coasters are often used as an analogy for what a team should expect from any given season, as squads will inevitably face unanticipated twists and turns. Indeed, after riding high on a five-match win streak, the No. 12 Cal women’s tennis team experienced an unexpected dip Friday in Boulder when it was upset 4-3 by unranked Colorado in its first Pac-12 conference match of the season.
As has been the case with most of Cal’s matches this season, doubles play was key in the overall outcome of the match. This time, however, the Bears came out on the losing end of the doubles point after dropping matches on the first and third courts.
