Marion Technical College celebrates opening of downtown campus
Just in time for Marion Technical College s 50th anniversary, students, staff, board members and community leaders gathered Thursday to celebrate another milestone: the opening of the college s downtown campus.
After a five-month delay, the Marion Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Marion Tech Downtown on the second floor of the Fisher Building. An event was originally planned for December when the satellite location first opened, but was canceled due to rising COVID-19 cases.
President Ryan McCall opened the ceremony, saying he got the idea for a downtown campus three years ago as a way to make college more accessible. ....

COVID-19 chamber survey shows Marion County businesses hopeful future

Though COVID-19 has been a part of our lives for more than a year now, a survey shows many Marion businesses have found ways to weather the storm and stay optimistic.
According to a survey from the Marion Area Chamber of Commerce, roughly 78% of surveyed businesses said they look to 2022 with predictions of slow to significant growth. Further, of these businesses, nearly 60% said they were either fully operational with employees back in the workplace and an additional 32% said they were fully operational with employees working either remotely or on a hybrid schedule.
While Matt Carbary, president of the Marion Chamber of Commerce, said growth is to be expected after a challenging year like 2020, this is still a significant increase. In 2015, the last time the Chamber of Commerce did this survey, only 44% of businesses said they predicted growth. ....

MARION - The Marion Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors recently joined Bob and Connie Goyer for the grand opening of the Huber Historic Home at 416 E. Church St. in Marion. The Goyers purchased the home in 2011 and have been restoring it since. The 8,100 square foot mansion was built in 1908 by Frank and Nona (Fahey) Huber. Frank Huber was the president of the Marion Steam Shovel, vice president of Fahey Bank and a community leader in the early 1900s.
