Largest U.S. Crèche Collection Can Be Found At UD

0:49
To understand why UD s Marian Library has what librarian Jillian Ewalt calls the most significant crèche collection in the U.S., you have to know the library s mission. All research has to do with the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The library started its International Crèche Collection in 1994, which is almost entirely based on contributions from friends and donors.
We received a major acquisition of 2,000 nativity sets from an Australian donor - Elisabeth Van Mullekom-Cserep - in 2007, which really jump-started the crèche collection, according to Ewalt.
Vojêch Kubašta made this paper nativity scene.

'Double-Planet' Event Dec. 21 to Resemble 'Christmas Star' : University of Dayton, Ohio

By Melanie Zebrowski
If you haven’t heard the exciting news yet, a “Christmas star” a phenomenon caused by the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn will appear in the sky on Dec. 21. These planets will be so close together (from Earth’s perspective) that they will appear to form one large, bright star in the night sky. The viewing conditions for this “double planet” are spectacular; it has been almost 800 years since they’ve aligned so well.
How, when and where to view it
In the hour after sunset, people in the Northern Hemisphere should look to the southwest to see this phenomenon before it disappears below the horizon. Although it can be viewed with the naked eye and even captured with a camera, a telescope is recommended to get the full experience of these planets and their moons together within the same field of view. Check out this article for more information. ....

Making Memes: Visual Literacy and Internet Culture
In August and September, Bridget Retzloff and Jillian Ewalt invited students to learn about visual literacy while creating their own memes. Students watched a short interactive lecture on visual literacy, memes, and finding public domain images; participated in an activity to find an image and create or remix a meme; and then shared their images and answered reflection questions. 567 students received PATH points, and we all benefited from seeing some student meme examples that accurately reflect the v ....

New edition of Meditations on the Litany of Loreto presents Newman's profound Mariology – Catholic World Report

For a nineteenth-century Anglican minister, John Henry Newman harbored a surprising level of devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
He dedicated an 1832 sermon, for instance, to instructing his congregation on the reverence that is due to the Mother of our Lord.
i He also drew close to affirming the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception, describing Christ as “the immaculate ‘seed of the woman,’” and asserting that the Son of God did indeed participate in our nature, but did so by “selecting and purifying unto Himself a tabernacle” from among women.
Upon becoming Catholic (in 1845), Newman’s Marian devotion naturally intensified, though he always kept in view that the glories of Mary are for the sake of her Son to paraphrase the title of one of his Catholic homilies. Newman’s profound theology of Mary is, in fact, one of the key theological threads that runs through both his Anglican and Catholic works. For good reason, Fr. Nicholas Gregoris has noted that ....
