In a correspondence addressed to Supervisor of Election Wesley Wilcox, fellow councilors and city staff, Wardell said his resignation will become effective Aug. 18.
Wardell gave a glimpse of his reasoning for stepping aside.
In addition to spending time with a host of community causes that Pamela and I care deeply about, the Reilly Arts Center and Ocala Symphony Orchestra s growth, the added management of the Marion Theatre, and entering my final year of doctoral school at the University of Florida all culminate this fall, Wardell said.
Wardell said in the letter that like all communities, Ocala has challenges ahead and I look forward to supporting the current and future city councils and staffs as they vigorously meet those challenges. ....

A number of years ago, decades actually, when I worked at the Citrus County Chronicle, which was headquartered then in Inverness, I was quite confounded by a little discovery I made at work one day. I noticed that I had developed a callus on the inside of my right wrist, just below the base of the thumb, and adjacent to where one’s pulse is taken.
I stopped working on whatever it was I was doing at that moment, and marveled at my callus. HOW in the world, I exclaimed to no one in particular, do you develop a callus on your WRIST? I looked once again, tested it with the fingers of my left hand, and convinced myself it was indeed a callus on my wrist, plain as day. ....

Corey Adamyk, of Ocala, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, an all-discipline collegiate honor society. Adamyk was initiated at Florida State University.
Ocala native celebrates 95th birthday with a drive-by birthday party
Annie Norman recently celebrated her 95th birthday with a drive-by birthday party, according to an email from Nancy Wininger.
Norman wore a tiara and waved to family and friends who drove by with beautiful signs and happy music, the email said.
She graduated from Citra High School, where she played softball and basketball and accompanied the school chorus on piano, the email said. Norman majored in education at Florida Southern College in Lakeland and was teaching in Auburndale when one of her students introduced her to his brother, John Norman, who had just returned home from the Navy. ....
