Train Depot In Marion To Be Repaired Following Derecho A fixture in Marion Square Park that was damaged by the August derecho will be repaired by this summer. The historic train depot building seen above in much better condition, was originally constructed in 1892. It was moved to the park in 1990. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the Marion City Council at its Tuesday meeting was presented a motion to approve repairs to the structure, with a contract with Point Builders. The Cedar Rapids company was the only one who put in a bid on the project. The roof and several of the building s columns are from the initial construction back in 1892. The columns were saved during derecho cleanup. The roof on the building s northside was taken out by a tree during the derecho. The train depot was one of hundreds of buildings that saw damage in the August storm. ....
