Additionally, about $1.86 million was awarded out of Cuyahoga County s Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding that was earmarked to combat homelessness, according to a news release from the Cleveland Foundation, which administers the Rapid Response Fund. The latest round of Rapid Response Fund grant recipients is as follows: • Cleveland Clergy Coalition, $53,550, to support a transportation program established and operated by a network of faith-based entities to bring residents to the Wolstein Center for their vaccinations.

Shaunta Sanchez was working a full-time job as a housekeeper in March 2020 when her phone rang. It was her employer, laying her off due to COVID-19. The Slavic Village mother, with four children at home, was told to file for unemployment. Sanchez started worrying about the rent. The Biden administration this month extended a national eviction moratorium through March 31. It’s intended to keep renters in their homes through the hardship of the coronavirus pandemic. So are numerous rent assistance programs bolstered by federal dollars. But in many cases, the help is short-term, sometimes difficult to access, and comes with strings attached.
