IN THE West Limerick village of Kilmeedy, a community development group has created a friendly “social hub” for its residents.
Kilmeedy is a small village near Newcastle West which, after the absence of a local shop for ten years, has built its own community shop and café called Roots.
Roots Community Shop and Café has had a long journey to where it is now and gladly opened its doors in December 2020. ....

Minister of State with responsibility for Disability, Anne Rabbitte TD, has today confirmed funding has been provided which will allow St Gabriel’s Children’s Centre Respite Service in Mungret to re-open.
The €5m funding will see nine additional Respite Houses open nationally including, first to open – St Gabriel’s Children’s Respite House in Mungret. ....

THE LIMERICK hurlers - not Santa Claus - delivered JP McManus perfect Christmas present last Sunday.
He thanked everyone who took part in the Team Limerick Clean-up (TLC) Treaty Rallying Call Competition for the senior hurlers.
With Limerick fans unable to lend their support in person at Croke Park, TLC called on fans to don their colours and record a short video message of support for the Limerick hurlers, to be shown to them ahead of the final. ....

Contractors have been appointed to begin construction of a new Regional Athletics Hub in Newcastle West in the coming weeks.
Sole Sports & Leisure Limited have been chosen for the project by Limerick City and County Council.
The new facility on the Cork Road includes the construction of an athletics track to international World Athletics standard, floodlights and all associated track facilities, which will have disability access.
Funding for the project has come mainly from Limerick City and County Council and the Large-Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund, which is part of Project Ireland 2040 administered by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media. ....
