USAID Commits $45m towards Primary Healthcare Services in FCT

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will commit $45 million over the next five years towards improving primary healthcare services in the Federal Capital Territory.
The Mission Director USAID/Nigeria, Anne Patterson, disclosed this during the signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between USAID/Nigeria and the FCT Administration to improve the health of residents in the territory.
The funds will be deployed through four existing health activities: the Integrated Health Programme, Breakthrough Action, Health Workforce Management, and the Global Health Supply Chain.
Patterson revealed that though the health status of the FCT population was fair when compared with other states of the federation, the FCT has seen an increase in the influx of people from other parts of the country. ....

Bello decried the surge in the second wave of the pandemic, ascribing it to the lack of compliance with non-pharmaceutical interventions by residents especially facial coverings in public, physical distancing and hand hygiene.
“Taking into consideration the surge in COVID-19 cases in the FCT, the PTF Guidelines issued on Tuesday December 21, and the authorization of President Muhammadu Buhari that sub-nationals should assume full ownership of this stage of the response against COVID-19, the FCT Administration hereby issues the following guidelines:
“All bars, night clubs, pubs,  events and recreational venues in the FCT are to remain closed for the next five weeks; ....

Second wave: FCT shuts bars, parks, restaurants for five weeks

Following the rising cases of coronavirus, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, has ordered that all bars, restaurants, leisure gardens, and event centres should be shut for five weeks.
He also directed that informal and formal festivity events, including weddings, conferences, congresses, office parties, concerts, seminars, sporting activities, and end of year events are restricted to not more than 50 persons.
Rising from an emergency COVID-19 meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, the minister equally directed that Churches and Mosques should not have more than 50 per cent worshippers, noting that social distancing and mandatory use of face masks and hand hygiene was to be strictly enforced. ....

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, on Wednesday, undertook a tour of IDU COVID-19 isolation and treatment centre, as part of efforts to effectively fight the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the territory
Malam Bello, who was accompanied by senior staff of the Health and Human Services Secretariat (HHSS) and Social Development Secretariat (SDS), said that the tour was undertaken to reconfirm the functionality of all the COVID-19 Isolation and Treatment Centers in light of the second wave of the pandemic. ....
