Victoria’s human rights commission will work with faith leaders and the broader community to educate them about the harms of gay conversion practices and only use the full range of strong new powers granted by the Andrews government if they prove unwilling to act to stamp out the practice.
The Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission has been equipped with power to investigate church groups and other organisations engaged in gay conversion practices, including seizing documents and pursuing them in court if they do not comply with orders.
