YMCA of Southwest Florida plans to merge with Manatee County YMCA

MANATEE COUNTY – YMCA of Southwest Florida has begun conversations of a full merger with Manatee County Family YMCA after months of a successful partnership through an existing management agreement.
The news comes as part of the Y’s strategic plan and vision to expand YMCA programming throughout Southwest Florida.
The management agreement was initially established to provide an opportunity to develop a strategic partnership between the YMCAs.
YMCA partnership begins
Since the beginning of this partnership, both Ys have been able to increase outreach and services through shared resources by working together, according to Keith Farlow, board chair of YMCA of Southwest Florida. ....

SKY Family YMCA will manage Manatee YMCA starting April 1

Under the deal, Gene Jones, president and CEO of the SKY Family YMCA, will lead both organizations.
“I’m looking forward to really getting to know the community and getting the Y more involved in internal as well as external programs and connections with people in the community who can help to further our mission,” said Jones, who limited his contact with Manatee area foundations and nonprofits while the agreement was being negotiated. “The board of directors has put together a list of people they want me to connect with.”
The Manatee YMCA, which has facilities in both Bradenton and Lakewood Ranch and operates programs in Parrish, will retain its own board of directors. ....
