Vizag steel plant privatisation row: CM has offered better solutions, says Vijayasai Reddy

Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) [India], March 6 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has shown alternate ways besides privatisation that will yield profits, said YSRCP MP Vijayasai Reddy following the state-wide bandh at the Maddilapalem Junction in Visakhapatnam against the Centre s decision to privatise the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
At the protest which was held on Friday, Reddy also hit out at the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), who have also expressed opposition against the same and participated in the bandh.
The state government is directly fighting the steel plant privatisation and Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy has shown alternative ways. If they are practised, profits will come. The YSRCP opposes the decision to privatise the steel plant, he said. ....

The arrest of leaders of the Left parties, Visakha Ukku Parirakshana Porata Committee, trade unions and people’s organisations, who were staging a protest at Maddilapalem Junction on Friday, came in for severe condemnation.
The arrested leaders raised slogans denouncing the Centre’s decision to completely divest its stake in the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) and the action of the State government in arresting the leaders, who were staging a peaceful protest seeking protection of the VSP.
A rasta roko was organised under the aegis of the committee, on the call given by the Left parties and trade unions against the privatisation of the VSP. Committee member V. Krishna Rao alleged that the police had arrested leaders and workers, who were staging a peaceful protest. ....

‘Allocate captive mines to VSP and convert loans into equity’
The Vizag Steel Plant Parirakshana Committee has condemned the indifferent attitude of the Union government towards the Visakahaptnam Steel Plant (VSP) agitation, which was being held for the past one month.
The committee held its meeting, condemned the Centre advising the State governments on privatisation of PSUs at a time when the Steel Plant agitation was gripping Andhra Pradesh.
It felt that it was nothing but making a mockery of people’s struggle. It demanded immediate revocation of the decision to privatise the Visakahaptnam Steel Plant and allocate captive mines to it apart from converting loans into equity. ....
