âIt was extremely busy from the very beginning,â Erickson said. âIt was definitely unique.â This time last year, when bars and restaurants had closed their doors to help curb the spread of the new virus, business at liquor stores boomed. At Westside Wine and Spirits, where Erickson works, business increased by 55% â a record for the store. âWe really started to see a big influx in April of last year,â he said. âWe had a lot of people with seasonal homes here that arenât typically here this time of year. Plus all the restaurants and bars were closed so if you wanted a drink you were going to liquor stores.â ....

PETERSBURG, FL A recently launched brewery scholarship by Beer Kulture will benefit a student of color who wants to attend the upcoming Brewing Arts program on the University of South Florida St. Petersburg campus. Beer Kulture and USF announced its partnership Tuesday. The scholarship, funded by Beer Kulture, covers the entire cost of the $5,000 program. Brewery training is 23 weeks, and is offered online. Participants will build foundational knowledge and hands-on training for a successful career in the industry of craft brewing, according to USF. The course is taught by professionals in the brewery field. ....

April 9, 2021 Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon recently signed a bill that maintains the legal status of skilled games, a move that won support from people in the amusement games industry. Michael Pace, founder of Pace-O-Matic, said he was excited to see the momentum that is building around the country for skill games and anticipates they will be moving into more states in 2021, according to a press release. Wyoming is great news and there is much more to come as our games are embraced by small businesses and states that realize they provide tremendous revenue, Pace said in the press release. ....

For the first time, the Nebraska Corn Board has opted to take part in a national microdistilling competition in an effort to further propel Nebraskaâs corn industry. The contest is expected to kick off sometime this spring, with judging held in Louisville, Kentucky, in July during the Heartland Whiskey Competition. Participants must use corn as the main ingredient. Microdistilleries have increased tremendously over the past several years, nearly doubling in number over a four-year period. It s similar to the growth of local wineries and craft brewers. ....
