All the regional power companies buy power from each other from week to week as needed.
Some residents of Archer pay their bills working in Gainesville at offices that use Gainesville Regional Utilities power. GRU also provides transmission services for the main providers of power in Archer.
A few temporary and full-time jobs are other boons created by the project, with workers receiving training useful for future solar jobs.
A few of the assortments of red herring concerns mentioned in public arenas are clarified here:
• Appraiser studies have shown property values are not affected by a solar array.
• The panel’s materials are encased in protective glass. An Origis spokesman says the panels won’t likely need more than rain to clean any pollen off.   ....

ARCHER, Fla. (WCJB) - The NAACP and Sierra Club Florida are speaking against the development of the proposed Sand Bluff Solar array on the outskirts of Archer, while the Alachua County Planning Commission is encouraging county commissioners to move forward.
The solar array project is a step away from approval after the planning commission voted 4-3, to recommend county commissioners to approve the development. ....

Alachua County plan board OKs Sand Bluff Solar array near Archer

A solar array project near Archer that would feed power to Gainesville Regional Utilities is one step closer to seeing the light of day following approval by the Alachua County Planning Commission despite opposition from residents in the area.
The planning commission reheard presentations on the Sand Bluff Solar array in a six-hour meeting Wednesday evening, after it previously approved the project in February. Another meeting had to be scheduled following the February one because additional nearby property owners had to be notified of the public hearing and workshops.
Planning board members voted 4-3 on a motion to recommend to county commissioners that the solar project be approved after the applicant, Miami-based Origis Energy discussed the project’s merits and several community members spoke out against it. The local chapter of the NAACP and the Sierra Club also have submitted statements opposing the project. ....

Debra Trione: Solar farm will be a good neighbor

At a neighborhood meeting last November, representatives from Origis Energy and Gainesville Regional Utilities sought to allay concerns about a proposed solar farm in the Sand Bluff neighborhood near Archer.
At that November meeting, a few local residents charged that the site selection had been racist: The county was once again conspiring to dump a dirty industry onto a Black and brown neighborhood (in this case a proud, multi-generational farming community).
Origis Energy, the solar contracting company that selected the Sand Bluff site, vigorously pushed back against that view. They noted that the site had been chosen for practical reasons. ....
